About the Event
The Winter Solstice brings the darkest day of the year to us. In days of old, this time of year in the northern hemisphere was one of fear and wondering if the year’s harvest would sustain the family until spring. Today, it’s still a time of depression and sadness for many people. For those in the U.S. who care about our common home called Earth, the whole year has seemed like a long night that would not end. In December we remember with wonder the flask of oil that burned for eight days in the Temple and a child who was born in a manager. We experience the same wonder and awe when we encounter the Divine presence amongst us and within creation today. For people of faith, this sense of awe is the antidote to climate and ecological despair.
